The Project
The project was to take an app that had an aspect to the user experience that created a pain point. The pain point would discourage people from using and disrupt user flow. We were tasked to improve a user flow which had pain points due to poor design.
Project Goal
For this project I had two goals: bring cohesion to the design and improving the user experience. The goal of this app is to make the patient’s life easier in medical care. MyChart (powered by Epic) partners with many providers and this redesign project is targeted toward the Duke Medical MyChart app. The 2 pain points that I wanted to focus on were the home screen and and check-in form user flow.
Results and Reflection
After the second redesign, I am feeling a lot happier with the project. The items seem more grounded with each having their own areas instead of looking like they are floating. Items such as the calendar are expanded so that the user has easy access to view upcoming appointments. The icons are more cohesive in color and line weights which helps in the overall cleanliness of the redesign.
Even though I can see the improvement through the iterations, I believe that I had been too ambitious in this project. It would have been better to break the pain points into 2 different projects to allow more time for testing, redesign, and iteration.
